Classic children's books have timeless appeal, and are loved by kids and parents alike!

The mention of classic children's books might bring back memories of your teen years, when you avoided anything labeled "classic" like the plague. Classics were simply not cool!

But like me, you might remember the times you did take the risk and read a classic--and you really liked it. It might even be among your favorite books now.

Of course, classic books are not just for young adults. There are classics to suit all ages, from infants and beyond. Think of the charming illustrations and soothing text of Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown.

Also remember those fairy tales that you loved so much as a child. Antique books are one particular type of classics. Because of the fragile condition of many of these books, they're usually meant to be enjoyed by collectors rather than handled by children. Find out more about antique children's books here. Because of our ever-changing world, books for children on cutting-edge topics or themes are always being published. The best of these books can be considered modern classics.

But like older classic books for children, you'll be able to see the reason that book could have an enduring appeal. These books have universal themes, which are less likely to seem dated. A perfect example of this is Charlotte's Web by E.B. White. Or for instance Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain.

There are not as many nonfiction classics for children. This is partly because nonfiction titles for children generally have a shorter shelf-life than fiction.

One of the best things about classic children's books is that they can be passed down from generation to generation. The same book that your grandmother read to your mother as a child, she read to you, and you are now sharing with your children! Grimm's Fairy Tales are an example of a book that's been enjoyed by many, many generations. Are you a homeschooler?
